 Ipswich Town - Portman Road
The away fans allocation is the Upper Tier of the Cobbald Stand which is set on one side of the pitch. The allocation is generally around 1,900. This area of the stadium generates good noise and makes for a great atmosphere. The stewarding and policing at Portman Road can sometimes be heavy handed and you can expect to go through the constant motions of being asked to sit down at any given opportunity.

Ipswich can be a decent night out so you should consider it if you are making the trip, especially as the location of Ipswich makes it a long journey for a day trip from most parts of the UK

 The Pub Guide

The Station Hotel, Burrell Road, Ipswich, IP2 8AJ
Tel: 01473 602664

This pub is one of the designated away fans pubs in Ipswich. It is situated outside Ipswich Train Station and is a good choice if this is your method of transport into the town. There is large screen TV's in this pub although they only show BBC and ITV matches.

This pub is a 5 minute walk from all of the town pubs, and a slightly longer walk to Portman Road. Definately worth a look as you wait for your mates coming in on the trains.

The Cricketers, 51 Crown Street, Ipswich, IP1 3JA

The Cricketers is a 10 minute walk to Portman Road and is one of 3 Wetherspoons pubs in Ipswich town centre. Open early and serving a wide range of cheap beers, this pub allows away supporters in.

The Golden Lion - 10 Corn Hill, Ipswich, IP1 1DB
Tel: 01473 210334
Website:Wetherspoons Website

The Golden Lion is in Ipswich Town Centre and allows away fans in, so if you are looking for a pub out of the way, then why not head over here? The pub is open from 8am and serves cheap food all day.

 Public Transport

Rail: The ground is only a quarter of a mile away from Ipswich train station. You will see the ground as you come into the station. Ipswich is served by trains from London Liverpool Street and Peterborough.

 Directions
Follow the A14 around Ipswich, until you see the turning for Ipswich (A137). Stay on this road and you will eventually see the ground on your left.
 Parking

There is very little street parking close to Portman Road. There are Pay and Display Parking close, around 800 spaces, which you will need to arrive early for and will set you back around £3.50. The town centre is only a 10 minute walk to the stadium and there is ample parking, so you may find this the easiest option if you are having a few beers along the way.

IPSWICH! Without doubt the most unwelcoming place I have ever visited as a football supporter.

Away fans are not allowed in any of the Wetherspoons establishments. We we're allowed in the Mannings only after the barmaid spoke with the landlord, but with a pint of John Smith's £3.35 we left!
We ended up in The Rep, where we were allowed in, if we went upstairs out of the way, as the barmaid said "she was doing us a favour! Lager £2.85 a pint. Apparently the Station is the pub in which they prefer away fans to frequent.

I wouldn't mind but our party consisted of fans with an average age of well over 50 years of age and wearing colours. Hardly the uniform of trouble makers! Take my advice drink outside Ipswich or don't bother going.
