West Bromwich Albion FC - The Hawthorns |
 |
The Hawthorns is home to West Bromwich Albion. Away fans are allocated 3,000 tickets on one side of the Smethwick Lane end. To your left is the Baggies fans who are generally in good voice and to your right you have eyes on view of more Baggies in the main stand. This can provide entertaining banter during the game!
There is a limited amount of pubs near the ground, put contrary to popular belief, you can find a pub near the Hawthorns. Check the pub guide for more information. One thing to note, there is a run down industrial estate behind the ground and we advise you to park here. The main reason is that after the game you are directed down an alleyway away from the home support into this Industrial estate, so if you are parked the other side of the stadium, you will have a long walk back round.

The Poachers Pocket, Albion Road, West Bromwich, B70 8QX
Tel: 01215 536280
This pub is located on Albion Road and is a designated away supporters pub. The Poachers is a large family friendly pub with a decent sized car park. If you are coming up as a large group then the landlord welcomes coach trips but asks you to call in advance so they can arrange staffing.
Food is served before and after the match and there is a pool and dart table. |
The Royal Oak, 171 Holyhead Road, West Bromwich B21 0BD
Tel: 0121 523 7486
The Royal Oak is one of the closer pubs which allows away fans in. If your support is large then you can expect to have this pub pretty much to yourself. The pub itself is one of the older lounge/public bar variety, and although looks small on entering the pub, there is plenty of room to fit you in.
The pub has Indian owners so also benefits from Indian snacks prepared on matchdays! |
The Waggon and Horses, Halfords Lane, West Bromwich
Tel: 0121 553 2866
Now this is your typical spit and saw-dust place, don't expect silver service from this boozer, but it's alright. You'll get in this pub as long as you don't wear colours and are discreet. It can take a while to get served, but in West Brom there isn't many alternatives.
Beer is served inside the stadium. ( Bottles ) |
Rail: The closest railway station is The Hawthorns which is about a 5 minute walk to the ground or Smethwick Rolfe Street which is around a 15 minute walk to the stadium. If arriving at Birmingham New Street then you will need to board a local train to Smethwick Rolfe Street. Alternatively there is a metro service from Birmingham Snow Hill station which runs every 15 minutes to The Hawthorns. The trip only takes 8 minutes if you are thinking about drinking in Birmingham before the match.
West Brom's ground is one of the easiest to locate, less than a mile from Junction 1 of the M5. When you come off the motorway, take the A41 towards Birmingham, you will soon see the ground on your right.
There is a decent amount of street parking available. If not street parking then there is industrial estate parking for around a fiver. Beware where you park though, after the game then you may be sent down a different route towards an Industrial estate after the game, so may well find yourself with a long walk back to your car.
